Surya Henna Review

Comments

Thank you for your review Jenna! What a great and detailed review. Sorry the color payoff wasn't what you were looking for. Hopefully the indigo one will work better. I also like the deep "blue/black" color.

I thought the traditional hair dyes also has the "old school" gloves? The last time I dyed my hair at home I had those gloves as well.

I wonder how long the henna lasts for?

I hate those gloves! I feel like they are going to fall off! LOL. The color seems to be holding well so far, but then again, I already had it black to begin with.

I'll keep you posted though ladytee!

This henna is so interesting to me because I've been dying my hair for so long- I have no clue what my natural color is. I always thought that henna was just red, but I saw due to your review how there are lots of options. Thank you for the review.
Are the gloves you are talking about the plastic ones they attach to the paperwork? I don't like those either but with MMU making and stuff, I have good gloves on hand all the time.

yeah, those big non-stretchy gloves, blech!

I always thought henna was just red too, but you can get it in 'clear' too, that way people can get the treatment value w/o changing their color.

I am looking foward to experiementing more and will keep you posted!

I need to change at least some of my color since I've had gray since 21- I am definitely vain enough to want to hide it at almost 40.
I don't think it is vain. I think there is power in feeling your best...and let's face it, at 40 most of us aren't ready for the gray look! I have tons of gray, I fear that in the next 5-10 years it will all be gray! eeek!
Hi there,

I have become allergic to traditional hair dyes and last time it was colored I ended up with welps on my neck and scalp and ended up on steriods.

I want to try this product.

HI Jenna,

Whn you did your Surya henna did you have any gray roots?

HI jenna, It didn't take my whole message. I wondered if you were dealing with gray roots. I just did a test on my dyyed dark hair with gray roots with chocolate hena cream and the gray come out pretty red. That scared me off. i wondered if the black would work better for me and I wondered how yours is doing now. I'd love an update based on your expereince since this post.

Thanks,

karen

Hey there Karen, I wrote an update to the henna review on my new blog: http://venushoney.wordpress.com/.

About 5-8 years ago i developed an allergy to the typical hair dyes. My scalp became red, swollen, itchy and puss was oozing out of my scalp. The woman who died my hair felt terrible about the reaction I had because she had been coloring my hair for years!!! I told her my scalp would heal and that I was more concerned about what to do with the grey. So I then turned to henna. Light Mountain Natural Color the Grey - Dark Brown. Works well and is completely natural for any one considering the product due to allergies [hopefully you're not allergic to henna]. The major downfalls for me was the 2 step process, length of time to leave on your hair and the red highlights due to the grey. I have been doing using this henna process for years. Now that I have more grey than I did 5 years ago when I started using this product, i was dying to get rid of the red highlights and researched the internet for another alternative to what I was using and found this site. I did the patch test behind my ear and thankfully there was no reaction so i applied the dye to my greys and thankfully they disappered. I used the black creme and was so happy with the processing time, ease of application and removal. I believe i have found a new product. i can still see where some of the red highlights were, but it isn't nearly has harsh and I am hoping that with future applications of Surya Black will help it to disappear. I left it on for 1 and a half hours to make sure it covered my greys. I highly recommend this product and I hope this helps anyone who has a similar situation

The product safety website skindeep.com rates Surya Henna Brasil Cream a 6 out of 10 (moderate) for safety...beware....this is not a totally natural, harmless product. Skindeep.com claims 21% of hair color products are safer to use than this one including several shades of permanent haircolor by Garnier. I was very surprised by this...check it out.

A late comment but it might be helpful. Have you tried

My last comment was cut-off during posting. Have you tried Lush's "Caca noir mama" henna dye? You can search online under "Lush" cosmetics and look in Lush's hair section. It might be messier in application but it's meant to produce blue-black/burgundy-black results.

Hi,
I read your review about Surya Henna and bought it. Thanks for the tip. I have a question. When you rinse it off, do you shampoo it off? I just used water to rinse it and I had a stained scalp. I washed my hair the next day and it was less stained. Do you think it's a bad idea to rinse with shampoo to avoid the stain?

I went to my local herbal shop to get normal every day henna powder to do the "green monster" hair dying process and found they only had Surya henna products.

Hey Jenna, just wanted to know that you are not losing any hair after using Surya Henna. I once tried a herbal henna and I lost hair like anything. I realized only after it was too late that the henna was not completely chemical free.
That's why I m a little apprehensive. Please do let me know if you experience such side effects of Surya henna. I have lots of grays..

Hi,
Thanks for your review. Since you still have some product left to use, I suggest that in the past I have left Henna on my hair for MUCH longer than the recommended time for more intense color, with no ill effects.

Wonder if you find the indigo, you could mix it in with this product?
Good luck!

ps. Light Mountain Color the Gray henna is said to be better for gray hair~ read the reviews here
i haven't tried it; i am wavering between it and surya, for the convenience of surya's cream formula...
Hi, (and Deep that should answer your question too)
I got very excited about this product that seemed safe, and your review is great. But out of curiosity, I checked it on "cosmetic database" and it doesn't look so clean. They tested the burgundy only. Other colors may be better, although usually darker it is more toxic it is.

So many great reviews about the Surya Henna Creme formula!

Hey Jenna, how long the colour lasts?i have a blond hair and i want to dye it with light brown surya henna dyes but i want my blond hair back after two months or month. please write to my email ! Thank you very much

surya henna natural dyes are excellent for me who am allergic to ALL chemical dyes, ammonia or peroxide..they are a bit pricey here in greece but they are worth it
I TRIED LIGHT MOUNTAIN COLOR THE GRAY AND I FOUND IT DIDN'T WORK VERY WELL FOR ME. ITS BEEN A GOOD WHILE SINCE I TRIED IT. I THINK IT DIDN'T COVER THE GRAY WELL OR IT DIDN'T LAST VERY LONG. IT WAS REAL HUMBUG HAVING TO APPLY THE PRODUCT 2 TIMES. I'VE USED NATURAL HAIR COLORS WHERE I'VE HAD BETTER RESULTS. BETTER GRAY COVERAGE.
